Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu, the leader of the majority and minister for parliamentary affairs, responded to the #OccupyBoG demonstration that was organized by the political parties, civil society organizations, and the minority caucus in parliament.

In an interview with Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM, he said that the opposition party made their choice too quickly.

“Citizens have the right to protest if they have grave concerns about the management at the Bank of Ghana. This is the first time since 1992 that a protest has been done against the Central Bank but they [Minority] should have waited for us to summon the Governor to Parliament and then act accordingly, that is where I have a problem,” he bemoaned.

The majority leader warned that events during the protests might have catastrophic effects on Ghana’s economy.

He continued by saying that violent acts captured during such a rally would harm Ghana’s reputation in the West.

The Minority is calling for the immediate resignation of the BoG Governor and his two appointees due to what they consider to be egregious economic mismanagement in Ghana.

They contend that this had a key role in the bank’s failure and the ensuing deterioration of the national economy.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader, has intimated that if Wednesday’s protest doesn’t have the desired impact, the group would pursue more options to oust the Central Bank administrators.
